Day 46. Weight limit exceeded

Well after taking Friday->Sunday off for travel. I made it back to the gym. Since I'm on a diet I decided to hit the bike for 70 minutes tonight. iPod + TV Shows = best way to pass time, plus I never have to fight for TV space or watch commercials. (I use rtorrent, pytvshows, & mp4ize if anyone is interested).

A combination of it being 4 days since my last leg lift, I was feeling great, I had a long day at work, and I just wanted to push my limits lead me to start off at 220 lbs. Per leg.

220x10, 240x10, 260x10 then 440x10,480x10,495x12. And that's all the more the machine has. It does look like I'm going to have to move to the sled where I'm going to have to rack all the weights by my lazy self.

I'm definitely gaining some tone back in my right leg. Actually I'm adding tone in both legs. This is definitely leaps and bounds beyond both previous surgeries. Hitting the gym early is the only reason. Even before I had full flexion back I was working on strength. While I've heard one before the other, I think they go hand in hand. I've gotten my best flexion stretches after doing leg press.

Unfortunately my camera, flash and skin don't exactly show this off the best...

Hey, Jed! I finally caught up on your ACL blog, reading posts from the beginning.

What's your opinion on morning vs. night workouts?

I've done morning workouts forever, but lately it's been tough just getting up, let alone early enough to get a full workout AND make it out the door on time.

I'm thinking of making it a nighttime activity, but concerned my raised metabolism would keep me awake.

Well my opinion is that I'm not a morning person and I never have been.

I can't say I've noticed any affect of the workouts on my sleeping patterns. On the days I can get out of work early Yoga is an excellent wrap-up to a work out and there are times that I'm close to sleep in our final resting position.

It's also made easier by my bachelor lifestyle. I really don't have to be home at any time for dinner, kids, etc.

Plus I still haven't outgrown (as everyone told me I would) my nocturnal tendencies or my college ability to manage on minimal sleep.

I get to work anywhere between 7:00 am and 8:30 am.

I've left work anywhere between 5:00 pm and 8:00 pm.

I've worked out anytime between 6:00 pm and 10:00 pm.

I'm asleep anywhere between 12:00 am and 3 am.

But I can't say when I work out has any correlation to those times.

Hi Jed, I had my injury on Feb 10th (skiing in Lake Tahoe) and my surgery last Tuesday. It looks like you are doing really well post surgery. I am inspired by your dedication to hitting the gym and plan to incorporate weight training as soon as I am able. I actually had the hamstring version of the surgery (the illustration I posted was just one that looked cool--not sure about the accuracy). Please keep posting about your recovery--I'm looking for all of the advice I can get. It's also nice to know that other people are dealing with the stuff you are.

Interesting about the flexion after leg press. I'm going to try that and see what happens this week.
